We Love Our Volunteers!

Our Tejas volunteers are exceptional. They do not come to Tejas to receive, but rather to give through their time and service. Lights of Tejas is dependent on hundreds of volunteers giving thousands of hours over the course of the holiday season. We have volunteer opportunities during Lights of Tejas as well as opportunities both before and after the festival during our Serve Weekends.

Extended Stay Volunteers

We have many volunteer groups, such as the SOWERS, Texas Baptist Men, Campers On Mission, Volunteer Christian Builders, and RVICs, stay with us for weeks at a time. They usually get to concentrate their efforts on larger projects at Tejas.

The Lord has blessed us with the help of so many wonderful volunteers. Volunteers are responsible for over half of the labor on our projects. They have become a vital part of the ministry of Tejas as so much would not get done without them.

Lights of Tejas Volunteers

Lights of Tejas is a Christmas lights festival for the entire family. Each year during the holidays, Tejas is a flurry of Christmas festivities as we transform our campus into one of the best light festivals in all of Texas. Lights of Tejas boasts over one million Christmas lights, many family-friendly activities, and multiple accommodation options for groups to stay in overnight.

Volunteer opportunities for this event run from November 18, 2019 to January 5, 2020.

There are 3 avenues to get involved as a Lights of Tejas volunteer. Check them out below!

1. Serve Weekend – Setup

Friday, November 16th – Sunday, November 18th, 2019

This Serve Weekend is focused on setting up Lights of Tejas and making sure all the final preparations are made before Opening Night. Volunteers will help decorate conference rooms, change signage and transform the campus into a Christmas wonderland.

2. Event Nights

Our 2019 calendar has 16 different nights to volunteer!

This is the perfect opportunity for the entire family to volunteer
Volunteers under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult
Overnight lodging (available upon request, with a free breakfast the next morning)

3. Serve Weekend – Teardown

Thursday, January 3rd – Saturday, January 5th, 2020

This Serve Weekend is focused on tearing down our Lights of Tejas decor, signs and traces of Christmas as we transition back into Retreat Season for our Spring guests. Volunteers will assist staff in boxing up decor, removing lights and returning items to our storage facility.
