The construction on the six new bunk houses at Tejas continues to move forward at a brisk pace and so do the plans for the interior decoration once construction is finished. Today we reveal the names for these new facilities. As you might remember the bunk houses are being built in pairs, so each area has four new bunk rooms and altogether they will accommodate 144 guests.

Fisherman’s Cove

The two most completed are located just across the road from our existing Lakehouse, and the area will be called Fisherman’s Cove. The names for each room are Peter, Andrew, James, and John and our inspiration for these is the story of Jesus calling His first disciples in the book of Matthew. This scripture serves as a daily reminder that Jesus has called all of us to live our lives following Him.

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him. Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him. Matthew 4:18-22

Bird’s Nest and Fox Den

The next two bunk houses are nestled into the woods across from our pool. One house will be called Bird’s Nest with Mockingbird (the Texas state bird) and Roadrunner (the real one, not the cartoon that makes the “meep, meep” sound) as the room names. The other house in this area will be known as Fox Den with rooms named Gray Fox and Red Fox. Depending upon the season and your patience level, you might catch a glimpse of all these animals at Tejas. The scripture from which we drew our names comes from Matthew 8:19-20. A teacher of the law has told Jesus he will follow him wherever he goes and Jesus’ response might sound somewhat discouraging. Jesus is preparing us for our Christian walk by reminding us that it will cost us something to follow Him.

Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” Matthew 8:19-20

Wildflower Grove

Our final two houses will be located close to our existing 4 Seasons facility in a new area called Wildflower Grove. The room names are Bluebonnet, Dandelion, Paintbrush, Primrose and remind us of the beautiful and brief wildflower season we experience in the Spring. Our scripture comes from the Beatitudes where Jesus implores us not to worry about our clothes.

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.” Matthew 6: 28-29
