Where is our focus?

Go, go, go, and don’t stop. That is what our culture shouts at us each day. Trust me, serving at a Christian camp and retreat that seeks to set the stage for Jesus to transform lives, we too get caught up in the “keep going” culture. Even being in the middle of a pandemic that has caused us to slow down, I catch myself getting off track and forgetting our mission and focus.

Getting ready for Thanksgiving at Tejas, we were busy setting up new activities and schedules to ramp up for 200 guests. Then, the rain came. Wait! It was nice weather all week, why Lord are you bringing the rain on the one weekend we have guests? Not fair!

Instead, God is once again putting us in our place and saying, “I’ve got this, focus on me and all will be well.” And so, the rain came, all our best laid out plans were put to the side and guess what? The guests and staff had a great time visiting, hanging out, relearning our love for Uno, Candy Land and Legos and just… being. Probably what we actually all needed. Thank you Lord, for helping us to see that.

So as this picture above shows from the eyes of my 5 year old daughter setting out the nativity, all our focus should be on Jesus and not what is going on around us or our best laid out plans. Be excited to be in the presence of Jesus and all He brought to us.

I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! – Luke 2:10-11
